Term Unit Description
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation
(Ultra-Violet Ray)
nm

Radiation that is shorter in wavelength than visible light and thus not visible to the human eye
Wavelength range : approximately 14 to 400 nm.

UV-A
(Wavelength range:315-400nm)
nm

The longest wavelength ultraviolet radiation that reaches Earth’s atmosphere from the sun
accounting for 95% of the ultraviolet radiation that passes through, can cause damage to the skin and mucous membranes with prolonged exposure.
It is used in fields requiring crime investigation, counterfeit money detection, and special lighting applications

UV-B
(Wavelength range:280-315nm)
nm

Most of it is absorbed by Earth's atmosphere, but some reaches the Earth and cannot pass through glass.
It accounts for about 5% of the ultraviolet radiation that passes through.
It is important for the production of vitamin D, which is crucial for physical activity and immune system improvement, and is used in tanning applications.

UV-C
(Wavelength range:200~280nm)
nm

This is the highest energy range within the ultraviolet wavelength spectrum and does not occur naturally.
It inhibits the growth of viruses and bacteria by destroying the DNA of cells.
It is used in fields such as purification, sterilization, and deodorization
